DRA7 IPU1 memory protection

Hello everybody ,

please I am running IPU1 on J6 . For example I can run sample application MessageQueueApp , having messages between A15 and M4 .

now is there any way to protect program memory IPU1 is working on ? My fear is a Linux app could , if no protection , ovewrite IPU1 program area .

is there any way to avoid this ?

Hi Carlo,

The Linux remoteproc driver allocates memory for loading the remote core firmware from a defined CMA pool. Allocation sizes are based on the resource table of the remote core (see www.kernel.org/.../remoteproc.txt and processors.wiki.ti.com/.../IPC_Resource_customTable for info on remoteproc and resource tables). Once memory is allocated from the CMA pool, Linux will not allocate that same memory to another app.

Hi Carlo,
Along with what Angela has mentioned, you can also protect the access to EMIF by configuring the MA_MPU firewall and EMIF firewall. You can look into the J6 TRM document sec. 4.3.4.1.4 MPU_MA Firewall and 14.2.3.7 L3_MAIN Protection and Firewalls.

Hi Buddy ,

please one confirmation : MA_MPU firewall and EMIF firewall can be set only by A15 or also M4 can do the register settings ?

Hi Carlo,

I am not 100% sure, but you should be able to set the register either from A15 or M4 unless it specifies on the TRM.
My reason, if you running the software on BIOS, then you will have M4 only; meaning the memory protection on L3 can be done from M4.
