Sirs,

Could you please advise the remaining processing power for users to add codes on the A8 core ?

There are several industrial Ethernet (slave and redundant) protocols but especially I'm asking for EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, and Profinet.

Hi,

It is difficult to generalize what will be the available cycles for other applications since this is dependent upon the slave configuration and communication rates.
The 300 MHz ARM A8 and a 200 MHz PRU-ICSS permits the AMIC110 to support the industrial communications protocols and exchange information with other attached systems such as a drive controller or sensor interface. If additional processing capability or features are required then the AM335x and AM437x provide solutions with up to 1 GHz A8 and A9 processors and (in the case of the AM437x) an additional PRU-ICSS .

David, I'm not asking to generalize. I'm asking for a customer spec:
- Part #: AMIC110 (300MHz) only.
- Ethernet protocols: EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, and Profinet only.
- Role: (slave and redundant) are mandatory.

Do you encourage my customer to try the part# ?
Or if the part is too slow to meet the conditions above, what is your target use case ?

I apologize for the delay. The PRU-ICSS handles much of the processing required to support EtherCAT redundancy , Ethernet/IP DLR, and Profinet MRP. The ARM processor loading is primarily dependent upon the cycle time. When the cycle time is in the few 10s of us. then the ARM resources are sufficient to handle data exchanges with an attached MCU.

So what is your words "with and attached MCU" ? Is that the PRU-ICSS ?

The AMIC110 can be used to provide an industrial Ethernet interface for a motor control MCU like the I C2000 .

So I understood that the AMIC110 is powerful enough to do an industrial Ethernet (slave and redundant) terminal.
I assume EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, and Profinet.

Yes you are correct.

The AMIC110 is powerful to support EtherCAT, Profinet, and Ethernet/IP slave communications with redundancy and an application such as a communications interface to a separate controller which is performing motor control (such as a C2000), with short communication/ control cycles.

The AM3359 industrial communications white papers at http://www.ti.com/product/am3359/technicaldocuments are also applicable to the AM110.
