AM335x Uniflash isc-dhcp-server will not start

I am trying to setup my Linux Mint 17.2 machine so that I can boot BBB from PC over USB.
I am following the step in “processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Ubuntu_12.04_Set_Up_to_Network_Boot_an_AM335x_Based_Platform”. I have edited the /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf file: default-lease-time 600; max-lease-time 7200; subnet 192.168.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { range dynamic-bootp 192.168.2.2 192.168.2.100; if substring (option vendor-class-identifier, 0, 10) = "AM335x ROM" { filename "u-boot-spl-restore.bin"; } elsif substring (option vendor-class-identifier, 0, 10) = "DM814x ROM" { filename "u-boot-spl-restore.bin"; } elsif substring (option vendor-class-identifier, 0, 17) = "AM335x U-Boot SPL" { filename "u-boot-restore.img"; } else { filename "zImage"; } range 192.168.2.101 192.168.2.199; } I have edited the /etc/xinetd.d/tftp file: service tftp { protocol = udp port = 69 socket_type = dgram wait = yes user = root server = /usr/sbin/in.tftpd server_args = -s /tftpboot disable = no } I have edited the /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server file: INTERFACES="eth0 eth1 usb0" I have edited the /etc/network/interfaces file: auto lo iface lo inet loopback allow-hotplug usb0 iface usb0 inet static address 192.168.2.1 network 192.168.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.2.255 up /etc/network/if-up.d/usb-interfaces I have created a /etc/network/if-up.d/usb-interfaces file: #!/bin/sh if [ "$IFACE" = usb0 ]; then sudo service isc-dhcp-server restart fi I have edited the /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf file: [main] plugins=ifupdown [ifupdown] managed=false When I try to start isc-dhcp-server this is the result: ronz@ronz-TMP453-M:/home/sitara > sudo service network-manager restart network-manager stop/waiting network-manager start/running, process 7439 ronz@ronz-TMP453-M:/home/sitara > sudo /etc/init.d/isc-dhcp-server restart * Stopping ISC DHCP server dhcpd [fail] * Starting ISC DHCP server dhcpd * check syslog for diagnostics. What have I missed?
  • Hi,

The software team have been notified. They will respond here.
  • I don't see anything that you've missed. It compares pretty closely to my Ubuntu 12.04 set up and what I've don on 14.04 as well.

What happens if you just plug in the Black? This set up should run the restart of the DHCP server on that event. Do you get something similar?

  • Powering the BBB through the USB cable while pressing the Boot button gives this result from the /var/log/syslog file:
