encoding 2 video sources at the same time with DM365

I need to encode 2 video inputs at the same time. Is it a good idea to use the dm365 or is the dm644x better suited for job.  This is simultaneous video and I need to combine them to obtain one video output.   I am asking this bcause the designer of the product just added the second video after choosing the dm365.  We are still at the evm stages of the project.

P.S.  I am awary of this third party solution for the dm365 : http://e2e.ti.com/support/dsp/davinci_digital_media_processors/f/100/t/38171.aspx

  • Hi,

There are few things not very clear from your requirement:

    1. Do you need to stitch multiple camera inputs (2 in your case) before giving it to encoder? This means you would need that eventually there is single encoded stream which is of (Camera A resoultion) + (Camera B resolution). Isnt it?

    2. Or do you want that there should be two separate encoded streams happening simultaneously for the two separate camera inputs? This means you have to run two separate encoding processes.

    3. Which encoding do you really want to do? Is it JPEG or MPEG4 or H.264 or something else?

If you want point #2 and #3, DM36x can provide you all the horse power needed, ofcourse depending on the resolution.

If you need #1, then there has to be a separate algorithm to stitch the two images from two cameras. I believe you want to have a smart stitching which blends the outputs of two cameras, instead of just placing two camera outputs next to each other.

The question remains now is how you get two different camera inputs to video processor. What are the front end devices you are connecting?
