AM572x RTOS booting issue on custom board

Hi

I have built few custom diag apps for our custom design now i want to test those on custom hardware, after putting all necessary boot images(MLO and app) and test apps on SDcard, when i insert SDcard on EVM booting and apps are working fine but the same SDcard not working on custom board so i came to know that we should create custom board library for our board.Initially i tried by following link but no clarity on this

http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Processor_SDK_RTOS_Board_Support#Creating

Note: Since our custom board DDR and UART design is same (pinmuxing) as EVM  because of this i initially planed to do without  custom board library, my understanding is atleast it has to boot at first stage with following logs

**** PDK SBL ****
**** Copying Application Image to DDR ****

SD Boot - file open completed successfully

 MPU CPU0 image load completed

 DSP1 image load completed

 DSP2 image load completed
Jumping to MPU CPU0 Application...

main starts
Task_create OK
Enter FATFS_init
Enter FATFS_open
Enter Ipc_start
Ipc_start OK
DSP1 is attached
DSP2 is attached
HeapBufMP_create (HOST @ 0x81888850) OK
MessageQ_registerHeap OK
Message pointer table created OKMessages created OK
max_core = 2
MessageQ name (core0_queue) created OK
MessageQ name (core1_queue) created OK
MessageQ name (core2_queue) created OK
MessageQ name (core3_queue) created OK
mc_process_init OK
ipc_heap_init OK
IPC HOST is ready
0:>

But this is not happening in custom hardware, please explain how i can i resolve this. And the link is not clearing to me please guide its become blockage in my task.

  • Chethan,

It is unclear to me why you are not seeing any UART output when you mention that the DDR and UART portion of the hardware matches with the GP EVM. At this point we can`t tell you for certain if this is a hardware or a software issue. Are the SYSBOOT pins, input clocks and power management (PMIC) also the same ??

If the diagnostics are not running out of the box, we recommend that you connect an emulator to the board, run the EVM GEL and make sure the custom hardware can initialize the DPLLs clocks and PRCM module as expected. This should give you confidence that the clocks and DDR initializatiton is working as expected. We then recommend that you run the UART test case over an emulator instead of the SD card to eliminate any issue with the booting (SBL). If this gets validated as expected the issue could either be with the SD/MMC interface or with the SYSBOOT pins setup. You can then run the PDK SD/MMC LLD driver unit test case to make sure FATFS and MMC interface are working as in case of the EVM. YOu can then evaluate, if this is a hardware or an software issue.

Hope this helps provide some structure to your debug in identifying the root cause.

    Rahul
  • Rahul,

That was nice explanation and as you told that emulator test i have done with my side and no problem with any interface. Later i understand that MLO was not updated i made a mistake that i loaded SBL and app was prebuilt images so this was the issue, sorry for that.

Now i want to build MLO how can i do that i just followed few related links but not conniving to me

    Chethan

  • Chethan,

The MLO can be build using the following command from pdk_1_0_x\packages:
    ${MAKE} -C ./ti/boot/sbl all BOARD=evmAM572x SOC=AM572x BOOTMODE=mmcsd

where ${MAKE} refers to gmake or make depending on whether you are building on windows or linux.

This is assuming that you have made all the code changes in the evmAM572x folder in the packages\ti\boot\sbl\board\evmAM572x

    Regards,
    Rahul

  • Thanks rahul,

I will try that command, my build environment is linux so command will be

    make -C ./ti/boot/sbl all BOARD=evmAM572x SOC=AM572x BOOTMODE=mmcsd   right??

"This is assuming that you have made all the code changes in the evmAM572x folder in the packages\ti\boot\sbl\board\evmAM572x"

What code changes in the packages\ti\boot\sbl\board\evmAM572x??? I'm confusing

    Chethan

  • Change is refering to you chnaging the board library link to the custom board library and checking the PMIC (AVS and ABB settings) in the SBL code that I told you about in another post.

    Regards,
    Rahul
  • Hi,Rahul
    I use : gmake board_lib LIMIT_BOARDS="evmAM572x" LIMIT_SOCS="am572x" LIMIT_CORES="a15_0" to update "ti.board.aa15fg" successful.
    then I try " gmake -C ./ti/boot/sbl all BOARD=evmAM572x SOC=AM572x BOOTMODE=mmcsd " it print :

gmake[1]: Nothing to be done for `all'.

    MLO is not updated.
