c5515 Instruction Set Documentation

Hello TI & Community Members!

Is there a separate doc that has just c5515 instructions or is it 100% compatible with c55x?

Also - TI - could we have all of the c5515 docs (maybe c551x) in one location - the c55x docs are scattered all over 'East Jesus' and it is hard to track down something like - hmmm, wonder what the timer registers are - and, why isn't the RTC in the 'c5515 documented in the same area?  Hmmm, wonder what the c5515 instruction set is, and what are the assembler mneumonics for the 'C5515...  Just seems a little disorganized or maybe better put too loosely organized over a large space.

Also - is TI 'officially' supporting the 'c5515 eZdsp from Spectrum Digital?  The page internal to TI is 'lacking' what one would think are the pointers to needed resource documents.

Thanks,
johnw

  • John,

Thanks for the feedback on document organization.  I'll feedback that back to our web page team.  It can be difficult to find documents because there are so many and the order changes based on number of accesses (MOST USEFUL).

Spectrum Digital is responsible for the C5515 eZdsp reference board and the SW they deliver.  They work with TI to define the feature set on the board.  TI fully supports the device and any software that is provided by TI that runs on this board.  Have you seen the Google open source site that has some additional SW applications located here: http://code.google.com/p/c5505-ezdsp/.

There are two documents that cover the assembly language instruction set of the v3.x CPU that the C5504/05/14/15 DSPs are based upon.  There is one for the Mnemonic instruction set and another for the Algebraic instruction set.  They can be found from the C5515 Product page here:  http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/tms320c5515.html#technicaldocuments.  Select the Technical Documents link which will take you to the section of the page listing the technical documents for the device.  This is where it gets tricky (as you point out).  The Product page only lists the top 10-15 Application Notes and User Guides.  So if the document you are looking for is not in the top list you need to click the link "View User Guides for TMS320C55x Low Power DSP".  This takes you to another page which lists the remaining documents.  On this page is ALL C55x related documents and unfortunately they don't all apply to  the C5515 family.  The documents you are looking are today actually below the Instruction Set UGs for the older v2.x CPU devices.  Search for v3.x and you will find the 2 documents.

    Cheers.

  • John,

Can you expound a little more on what you mean by "scattered all over 'East Jesus' and it is hard to track down"?  I'm thinking they are all on or one click off the Product page.  We are discussing this internally and I want to present your view point.

    Cheers.

  • Tommy,

I think in your first reply you have the general idea.

For the TI eZdsp page - it has zero references for software or the 'C551x docs that I am speaking of.

Once you go to the Spectrum DIgital site - they make a big deal about saying 'everything is as-is' and don't bug us.  There are no pointers to TI docs on that site.

Getting this into one cohesive location would be nice.

And yes, I have been to the google code site - it is always a pleasant experience do download a build that uses a CCS rev that hasn't been released yet - as was done in the last update - the 4.1.3 CCS release was done yesterday - the latest demo build was released on Jun 21 - no wonder I had some difficulty with the build.

And yet another issue - that I haven't had time to thoroughly research - the lib that is under the Spectrum Digital - usbc5515lib... or whatever the name is - gives errors when you try to link it now with the 4.1.3 toolset - so there isn't synchronization in what's released and the toolset.  Sorry to diverge a little here - but it is all related.

    Thanks,
    John W.
