PRU Ethernet switch mode not supported

Hi all,

My customer needs to develop a switch on the PRU-ICSS, but in it mentioned

The current implementation does not support Ethernet switching within the PRU-ICSS. The provided PRU firmwares only support 'dual emac' mode in this release of the Linux Processor SDK.

Could you share whether the root cause for the limitation is the silicon or the software?

That wiki page documents the Linux Processor SDK PRU Ethernet capabilities. Which as you've seen is currently only 'dual emac' mode.

The RTOS Processor SDK however, does have support for 802.1d Ethernet switching within the PRU-ICSS. This is implemented by the firmwares running on the PRU cores along with driver software running on the host processor: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Processor_SDK_RTOS_ICSS-EMAC

So, the limitation is a software one as the firmwares that support Ethernet switching have not been ported to our Linux distribution yet.
