Can the PRUs of 66AK2G01 be used for Ethernet?

Posting for a customer:

I'm looking at the 66AK2G01 processor and it looks like it has only 1 Ethernet interface available. However it looks like it has 2 PRUs.

Can we use the 2 PRUs available to provide more Ethernet interfaces? If yes, does TI have any SW available to support the ethernet functionality for TI RTOS and Linux? If no, are there any other ways to get additional Ethernet interfaces?

Hi,

Yes, you can use PRU for Ethernet purpose.

From http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Processor_SDK_RTOS_Release_Notes and K2G Proc SDK RTOS package, it doesn't have ICSS EMAC driver support.

For Linux, the PRUs are configured in K2G device tree, so they are supported in Linux.

One point to keep in mind for future reference is that the 66AK2G01 is not currently planned to include the PRU-ICSS modules.

The 66AK2G02 will have the PRU-ICSS's and these comments about EMAC support will be valid for that part number.
