5502 McBSP & I2S CODEC

Hi All,

I am a newbie to both the forum and the C55x family of devices.

My question is hopefully pretty straightforward to answer. I am using a C5502 to which I shall be interfacing a (non-TI !!!) CODEC - its actually a Maxim 9856. I plan to use the I2C to setup and control the device (no problems there), but I want to know if there are any gotchas about either 1) using the C5502 McBSP for I2S or 2) interfacing the McBSP to non-TI CODEC / devices in general?

Does anyone have some 5502 source code for McBSP in I2S mode that they are happy to share?

Best place to find information on the peripherals is from the C5502 Product Folder: http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/tms320vc5502.html. Have found this resource. From here you want to look at 2 documents.

First the silicon errata document: http://www-s.ti.com/sc/techlit/sprz020 to look for any issues with the peripheral you want to use. There doesn't seem to be anything specific to I2S mode.

Next look at the Reference Guide for the McBSP: http://www-s.ti.com/sc/techlit/spru592. The Key Features list in section 1.2 states that the McBSP provides a direct interface to IIS compliant devices. So if the Maxim part (shame on you for not using one of our:-) ) is I2S compliant you should be good to go.

I don't have an example code, maybe someone else in the Community can help there. Have fun!
