RTOS/TMS320F28377S: 28377s, SYSBIOS and platform editing

Part Number: TMS320F28377S
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSBIOS, TMS320F28377D,

Tool/software: TI-RTOS

Hello,

I am confused how to create or edit platform for sysbios project that uses CPU 28377s.

First, I tried to create new platform in CCS v6.2 by Project -> RTSC Tools ->Platform->New. However 'Device name' TMS320C28377S is missing in the list. I found forum thread "Delfino TMS320F28377D package not in SYSBIOS" that solves this issue but I do not understad conclusion that Sysbios is supported on this platform but does not contain configuration support.

Second, I tried to create new example project in CCS v6.2 by Project -> New. (Project templates and examples: SYS/BIOS - >TI Target Examples -> Typical) and get some inspiration from there. Example project uses platform 'ti.platforms.tms320x28:TMS320F28377S' which I then wanted to customize by Project -> RTSC Tools ->Platform->Edit but dropdown menu 'Package Name' remains empty after setting file path to 'Platform package repository'.

What is the correct procedure to create custom platform?

  • Lukas,

Which version of TI-RTOS are you using?

And can you please clarify why you are creating a custom platform?  Are you currently using a TI development board, or do you have custom hardware?

    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Not using whole TI-RTOS but only

    SYS/BIOS: 6.46.4.53

    XDCtools: 3.32.1.22

    CCS: 6.2.0.00050

I am creating custom platform because I have custom harware.

  • Lukas,

    OK, thanks.

I installed these and am seeing what you describe.  I need to talk to an expert in the morning and get back to you…

    Regards,
    Scott

  • Hi Lukas,

It turns out that the platform wizard can’t be used to generate a new platform for the Delfino MCUs.  These devices use the “generic” platform (ti.platforms.tms320x28 that you’ve seen), which is shared with many other C28/F28 devices.  To generate a custom platform the platform wizard requires a ‘base’ device definition, which doesn’t exist for the Delfinos.  These devices are indeed “supported” by SYS/BIOS, but not by the platform wizard.

Can you clarify more why you want to create a custom platform?  Normally this is not necessary.  For example, changes to memory map can be made without creating a new platform (see Chapter 7 in the BIOS User’s Guide).  What do you need to customize or change?

    Thanks,
    Scott

  • In the end i have used generic platform and edited memory sections in .cmd file because I find option to edit generic platform very confusing:

How to change device name to see correct default memory map for example?

P.S. I saw empty dropdown menu 'Package Name' because i entered wrong directory level.

  • Hi Lukas,

Editing the memory sections in your .cmd file is the right thing to do.  The platform wizard isn’t able to override some fields of a generic platform.

    Regards,
    Scott
