TMDSICE3359: Motor control

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3359, TMDSICE3359

Hello,

I am intending to buy the TMDSICE3359 - AM3359 Industrial Communications Engine board
and
I would like to clarify a few things concerning the pins on the board.

Are there dedicated pins so that I can read a motor's incremental encoder (qep) ?
How many incremental encoders (qep) can I read simultaneously with this board ?

I have the same questions for the PWMs.

Are there dedicated pins so that I can send PWM to a motor?
How many PWMs can I send simultaneously with this board ?

I intend to control three motors with one board.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Thanasis Mastrogeorgiou

  • Athanasios,

you can find the schematics for ICEv2 on the web. Now you will see that the amount of pins going to connectors is limited.

An alternative suggestion would be to look at AM437x IDK. This is targeted for motor control (single chip drive...).

I don't think we have a Sitara EVM that controls up to three motors with PWM directly...

    Regards,

  • Hello and thank you for your reply,

as i can see in this user guide the TMDSICE3359 - AM3359 ICE has at least 7 digital inputs, 7 digital outputs and general purpose i/o.

Does this mean that I can program this pins to read 3 encoders and send 3 pwms ?

The AM437 IDK that you suggested

as I can see in this user guide has at least 3 PWM and 3 eQEP dedicated pins

so I think that this is OK to control 3 motors. Is this correct ?

Thank you in advance for your help.
