AM5728: PRU examples

Dear Team,

My customer is looking for the examples to develop PRU of AM57x as it is hard for them to develop PRU SW using examples for AM335x.

Could you please help where he can find PRU examples for AM57x?

As he is developing PRU SW using CCS, there is no need for PRU modules like PRU loader in Linux. What he wants to know is how he can use below functions in AM57x.

Hi Biser,

They have used 'pru-addon-v4.0-Windows-Install.exe ' and its 'Pru/Pru_cape/pru_demo ' examples, but it does not work on AM57x.

What does the customer plan to run as their host operating system on the ARM cores? Linux or RTOS?

The example that they are referencing is an outdated StarterWare example (meant for the PRU cape on the BeagleBone Black). StarterWare has since been replaced with the RTOS Processor SDK.

They will use Linux on the ARM cores, but it is not matter at this stage as their PRU SW engineer is focusing on the development of PRU SW, and want to build the environment to develop PRU SW on CCS easily. After finishing development PRU SW, they will apply PRU SW downloading from Linux.
So, now they want to discuss on the environment to develop PRU SW on CCS.

I checked RTOS PSDKv3.2 package and there is PRU examples in '\ti\pdk_am57xx_1_0_5\packages\ti\drv\pruss', but I'm not sure if these examples can be used on CCS as well, and I also could not find any GEL file to test it on CCS.

I checked SoftwareDevelopment Guide as below, but could not find method to test it on CCS.

Could you please let me know how my customer can test these examples on CCS directly or if there is any other detailed documents for it?

My customer failed to run these examples in the RTOS PSDK v3.2, and it seemed he used only CCS at this time and he did not load full RTOS PSDK on the ARM and DSP at all.
e.g. he tried to run these PRU examples from CCS, but he failed to run only using CCS.

Please guide how it can be run using CCS to develop PRU SW only.

The version of the PRU add on package (PRU Software Support Package) that your customer is using is from an old release (v4.0). The current version is 5.1.0 and can be found in the 'example-applications' folder of the Linux Processor SDK v3.2.0.5 and also on git.ti.com (https://git.ti.com/pru-software-support-package/pru-software-support-package/trees/v5.1.0).

The package has examples for the AM572x device in the 'examples/am572x/' folder. The RPMsg examples require Linux to be running on the ARM and do not lend themselves easily to CCS development so your customer should start from one of the other examples. These examples can be imported easily into CCS (Project->Import CCS Projects... then navigate to the examples/am572x/ folder). If you do NOT check the box for 'Copy projects into workspace' then the projects will build with no changes required.

And also, is there any examples to show how other cores like DSP or ARM core can access PRU internal memory and how data can be exchanged between DSP/ARM and PRU?
