Linux/DRA718: IEEE 1588 on JACINTO J6 DRAXX

Hi Team:

We have a Ethernet AVB stack of our own. We are looking for TI Evaluation Bords / SOCs which can be used to port and test the AVB stack code.

Questions:

For the JACINTO 6 EVM ( DRAXX Jacinto Faimly ) :

1. Does MAC ports have hardware support for IEEE1588 .

2. Does the hardware also support for queue managment ( Rx/Tx ) and traffic Shapping ( Tx only ) ?

3. Will the TI OS provide the 1588 PTP support to Map and use the PTP functionality.

If this is not there on Jacinto which other board/SOC will provide this support?

Hello Amit,

1. Does MAC ports have hardware support for IEEE1588 .
Yes, DRAXX has hardware support using CPTS module for timestamping. Time stamp values for every packet transmitted or received on both ports of switch can be recorded

2. Does the hardware also support for queue managment ( Rx/Tx ) and traffic Shapping ( Tx only ) ?

Yes, traffic shaping and queue management is supported using the rate limiting and priority management for each of Rx and Tx channels. This uses PCP (priority code point) & AVB tag field of Ethernet header to decide which channel packet belongs.

3. Will the TI OS provide the 1588 PTP support to Map and use the PTP functionality.
Yes, TI Linux drivers for DRA7x has 1588 PTP support.

So good to know that we will be able to put our Ethernet AVB code and utilize the PTP from the underneath hardware. I have been searching the DRAXX TRM but havent been able to locate. Can you please provide reference to the module.

Unfortunately DRA7xx TRM is not available publicly. Can you please contact your local TI sales representative for getting access to TRM and other documents?
