AM5728: Interfacing 16-bit camera

Part Number: AM5728
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDSEVM572X, TMDSCM572X

Dear Team,

Please guide me to interface 16 bit camera with Beagalboard X-15 Board. The board is having Sitara AM5728 processor.

The guidance i need specially for 4 lines-

"de" line

"fld" line

"hsync" line

"vsync" line.

What i come to know, "de" input is for data enable and "fld" is for field input.

So are all the 4 lines are necessary for camera interfacing?

Please tell me some camera modules also that can be interfaced with this concept.

Thanks.

  • Hi,

Beagleboard X-15 is a community project. Support for it can be found on www.beagleboard.org. This forum supports the AM572x EVM (www.ti.com/.../TMDSEVM572X), which comes with a camera module in the box. General information about the AM572x VIP interface can be found in the AM572x TRM Rev. H, section 9.
  • Hi Bister,

thanks for the suggestion. In TMDSEVM572X EVM, I went through the TMDSCM572x Camera Module schematic where I2C communication is used with data pins. So I think I2C communication is must for that.

In that case my questions could be silly but i want to clarify for 2 pins -

    According to AM5728 processor datasheet-

VINXa_de0 = Video Input X Port a data enable input.

VINXa_fld0 = Video Input X Port a filed ID input.

What is the exact function of these two inputs? Can these pins be modified to be used for TMDSCM572x Camera Module? Can these pins be used instead of I2C?

Sorry for these silly questions, i am new with camera and the EVM. If you elaborate then it will be helpful to me.

    Thanks.

  • These signals need to be connected only if the camera you use outputs them. As for I2C - no, these pins cannot be used for I2C communication.
