TMS320C6472: What are diffrences between C6472 and TCI6486?

Hi,

I am developing media transcoding in TMS320C6472. But our partner suggest us to use TMS320TCI6486. I have read both datasheets. They are the same. Could you tell me what are differences between them? Which is better? What does TCI stand for ?

Nguyen,

Yes, both the device are same and you may choose one based on your application. The TCI devices are commonly used for communication infrastructure and available in more packages. It also have wide range of temperature grade.

Nguyen,

Though the TMS and TCI devices are similar in architecture, the TCI devices are not available for broad market. So we would recommend you to consider TMS catalog device.

Dear Senthil,

If there are no difference between C6472 and TCI6486, why did TI put two names for it?

In my mind, two names mean that they are two types of DSP chipset. There are something different between them, but only TI's Engineers can understand what they are.

So, please discuss with your colleagues and give us your explanation.

The TCI devices are only available for special engagement telecom customers. There is no Order Now on the Product Folder, for example. They are not sold by Catalog. We are not supporting TCI devices in e2e forum. If you want to get to know more about TCI devices, feel free to contact your local FAE or sales representative.
