Hi ,

We need to interface a 8 bit parallel memory device (FPGA ) to AM3358 processor .

The FPGA Device has got 8 parallel data lines and 3 address lines.

Please suggest me which interface to go with . EMIF or GPMC ?

What will be the max speed if i go with GPMC ?

Also please tell me how GPMC is mapped with DMA ?

Is it possible for me to validate the FPGA device using Beagle Bone Black Board with above mentioned requirements.?

Hi,

EMIF is a dedicated interface for the processor DDR memory. What you can use is the GPMC. Over GPMC you can achieve up to ~ 50Mbytes/sec in synchronous mode using EDMA. For details see section 7.1 from the AM335x Technical Reference Manual Rev. O. You can find the Beaglebone Black schematics here: elinux.org/Beagleboard:BeagleBoneBlack

The device that we want to connect is of Asynchronous type . what will be the max data transfer rate ?

Hi ,

We are designing a PCB with the reference of Beaglebone Black design .

In our design we have to connect an external asynchronous memory device to the GPMC and also we need to connect eMMC Nand Flash for the system booting .

When i did the pinmux it is found that MMC 1 data lines are multiplexed with GPMC data lines . (The same information has been mentioned in the Beaglebone Black SRM)

I want to use both interfaces in my design .

Please suggest me what can be done to resolve this issue

There is no workaround for this pin conflict. You cannot use MMC1 for booting and also use GPMC.
