TMS320VC5502: How does a external bus control works?

HI all,

I have seen in  code configured XBCR(External bus control Register) for HPI data bus(HD[7:0]).

XBCR=0x08;

As per the datasheet this register is used for enable and disable the internal pullup-pulldown and busholders(0:Enable 1:Disable).

what is the default state of this HD[7:0] at power on?

What is bus holders?when it affects? what is the effect of enabling or disabling it?
