Dumping video output from TDA3x

Hi,

I would like to dump video output of TDA3x and do some offline processing. Currently we are processing 720p. Is there any way to dump YUV output in sd card or dump over Ethernet?

Hello Navin,

Are you using TI Vision SDK or your custom software? If VSDK, what version?

In TI Vision SDK we have several examples for outputting data on SD card and network. It is done using 'null' link of VSDK which supports data output to SD, memory or via network.

For dumping video data through network you can refer to VSDK_install_dir\examples\tda2xx\src\usecases\network_rx_tx\chains_networkTxCapture.c use case.

Hi Prasad,

I was looking into the chains_networkTxCapture.c usecase. "Null link" is present in A15 but TDA3x doesn't have A15. How can we have similar functionality in TDA3x?

Hello Navin,

The VSDK use-case takes care of running network/null link on the IPU for TDA3xx. You dont need to change anything in use-case.

On TDA3xx TCP/IP throughput is limited due to low MHz IPU, you wouldnt be able to dump YUV data.

I would suggest you to move to VSDK2.12 where we have added high throughput Ethernet support for TDA3xx using TI custom protocol.

Our requirement is we need to dump VGA(640x480) at 20 FPS.

We have decided to dump the YUV video in SD card. How to enable SD card dump in VSDK 2.10.

Hello Navin,

You can use null link with data type as NULLSRC_LINK_DATA_RX_MODE_FILE for dumping frames to the SD card.

Hi Prasad,

If I'm not wrong, I think NULLSRC_LINK_DATA_RX_MODE_FILE is for reading file from SD card in nullsrclink and not for dumping in nullLink.

Currently we are trying to File_write()(provided in file_api.h ). When we try to do File_open(), it fails. How to open a file in SD card and dump to it?

Navin,

You are right, sorry for typo. You should use NULL_LINK_COPY_TYPE_BITSTREAM_FILE in null parameters to use SD.
Once this is done null link will take care of writing to file.

Hi Prasad,

We tried including null link.null link doesn't seem to dump any frames to file.

Inside src/links_common/null/nullLink_tsk.c, NULL_LINK_COPY_TYPE_BITSTREAM_FILE is not handled by NullLink_drvDumpFrames().

Hi Navin,

You could register a callback in the null link. This callback will get called when null link receives a frame from its previous link. You could implement this callback in your usecase and in the callback, you could use FILEIO to dump the frame into a file..

Please note that FILEIO is very slow, so i doubt that you could write files at 20fps rate..

Obviously, dumping through ethernet will give higher throughput.
