DM6467 boot + kernel start time

Hi All,

I have a requirement for DM6467 board to reduce the uboot+kernel start time (from power up until the file system is up) to less than 2 seconds.

This should be done by optimizing the uboot and kernel code.

The operating system is MVL PRO 5.0.

Is this dable?

If not, what is the minimal start time I can achive?

Thanks,

Erez

Having the full boot within 2 seconds is very fast, this may be possible but that depends on how you define your start up time, i.e. what the kernel needs to have done and what services you need up by that 2 seconds. Essentially you can make the kernel boot as fast as you want by removing services and features, so how fast it can go depends on your needs at the 2 second point and what you are willing to sacrifice or wait for.

There are a few references you may find useful, namely this application note and this TIDC presentation, in the TIDC presentation the boot time was down to 2.5 seconds, you could probably go faster with more optimization effort.
