On Board MSP430 not recognised

Hello all, I hv a Lyrtech DM648EVM which has on board MSP430 with a JTAG support for programming. I hv recently purchased TI MSP-FET430UIF (USB) programmer for it with the IAR kick start V4.11A and the actual program. The problem is, on board MSP430 controller is not recognised by Emulator although I have followed all the instructions. Is there any other HW/SW needed (in addition to one I hv) to Program on Board MSP430? Do I need to change any jumper or switch setting of DM648 to program On board MSP?

 Waiting for ur reply

Ahmed

  • Hi Ahmed,

I managed to connect to the MSP430 on my EVM with the same programmer and IAR install, so I am confident this will work. One quick question I have for you is which emulation header you are plugging the programmer into? The MSP430 has its own 14-pin header J9 which is right behind the 8 input RCA plugs. If you are connecting your programmer to the DSP's keyed (i.e., missing one pin) 14-pin header J12 then it will fail to recognize the MSP430.

  • In addition, please refer to this Wiki article on troubleshooting the MSP430/USB Programmer. If you are still seeing issues please reply to this thread with comments/answers to those questions.

  • Tim,

Thanku very much  for a very good wiki Article & for ur assistance now its working fine

    There were two problems

    1. Pin 9  on header was open (Not properly connected to ground)

    2. It didn't work on one PC but work fine on the other PC , I think there may be some driver Issues

    Thanks & Best Regards

    Ahmed

  • Ahmed,

One thing you should be aware of is the fact that the MSP430 on the EVM is intrinsic to the operation of that board.  If you do end up changing anything in the code or setting something on purpose/accident, you will void your warranty and have no recourse with the board manufacturer, Lyrtech.  In general, there should be no reason for a user to access the MSP430 via an emulator on this EVM.
