Questions from customer:

They would like to us the PRUs – ICSS0 (PRU0 and PRU1) for the Industrial Ethernet based fieldbus communications – PROFINET /EtherCAT (see picture).

Are two separate MAC addresses available for the two ETH0 and ETH1 RJ45 connectors?
Is it possible to assign 1 IP address to both ports or do each have to have 1 IP address each?
For the non-real time communication, they also need two separate Ethernet ports (ETH3 and ETH4)
Do both the ports have the same MAC and IP addresses (which would be “pre-provided” by TI)?
Could one of the ports (e.g. ETH4) be prioritized, and how is the communicated controlled by the Sitara – ARP tables? Routing tables?
Complementing the ICSS/PRU use, they would like to use the 2^nd ICSS (ICSS1) for an EnDat 2.2 interface. Would that be possible?

From apps team:

• Are two separate MAC addresses available for the two ETH0 and ETH1 RJ45 connectors?
• Yes Addresses are stored in EFUSE register. There are 2 MAC addresses programmed in each device. These are stored in the mac_id0 and mac_id1 eFuse registers (read-only). You can have your own MAC addresses stored in external EEPROM if required,
• This is described in AM437x Technical Reference Manual

• Is it possible to assign 1 IP address to both ports or do each have to have 1 IP address each?
• In Ethernet Operation Dual Mac mode both ports have unique addresses. For additional Information see processors.wiki.ti.com/.../ICSS_EMAC_LLD_developers_guide

• In PROFINET operation the device should have 1 IP address only. For more Information go to us.profinet.com/.../ and www.ti.com/.../tidep0008
• EtherCAT doesn’t need IP address (daisy chain). It is possible to implement Ethernet over EtherCAT. But this is done at the stack and application level and is supported by the Stack provider. For more information go to www.ethercat.org/.../technology.html and www.ti.com/.../tidep0025 User Guides

• For the non-real time communication, they also need two separate Ethernet ports (ETH3 and ETH4)
• This can be done using the CPSW interface

• Do both the ports have the same MAC and IP addresses (which would be “pre-provided” by TI)?
• It is possible to use the addresses in MAC_ID0/1 or use their own

• Could one of the ports (e.g. ETH4) be prioritized, and how is the communicated controlled by the Sitara – ARP tables? Routing tables?
• Yes, this can be controlled by instance priority, associating with queue priority for each port. Traffic from PRU-ICSS is passed through OCMC memory.

• Complementing the ICSS/PRU use, they would like to use the 2nd ICSS (ICSS1) for an EnDat 2.2 interface. Would that be possible?
• Ethernet. EtherCAT, and PROFINET can run on ICSS1 only
• EnDAT can run on ICSS0
