PROCESSOR-SDK-AM335X: HSR/PRP

HI,

For implementing the HSR/PRP with AM335X is there any dependency with the PRU . Can we implement it with out the PRU using the normal RGMII interfaces from the AM335X ?

Yes, you can implement HSR/PRP with CPSW - normal RGMII interfaces instead of PRU-ICSS MII. There is no limitation/dependence to switch to a CPSW based HSR/PRP solution.

I had more discussion with experts in the industrial field, and wanted to clarify the HSR/PRP implementation with CPSW. The HSR/PRP protocol itself is okay to implement on the Linux layer or TI-RTOS with CPSW, however with our enhanced PRU cut-through switching solution, the forwarding delay is significantly decreased which is especially beneficial to performance of long chains, in addition, processor load is reduced and not dependent on cycle times as removing redundant frames is offloaded. Hope this helps you make decision to choose our enhanced PRU-ICSS HSR/PRP solution instead of developing CPSW based one.
