I recently received an AM3359 module to develop an EtherCAT slave. I'm trying to build a simple "hello world" application using CCS7. I can build it OK, but when I try to debug it, I get the error:

M3_wakeupSS: Error connecting to the target: (Error -1266 @ 0x0) Device is held in reset. Take the device out of reset, and retry the operation. (Emulation pack age 6.0.504.4)

I followed the getting started section of StarterWare. I have the XDS100v2 Debug probe selected, and when I test it I get no errors. I have the TMDXICE3359_v2_1a.gel GEL file selected from the SYSBIOS 02.01.03 release as suggested in another thread.

Any suggestions as to what to try?

After further digging, I discovered my mistake - I had allowed the application to be loaded on both the A8 and M3 processors. By disabling the M3 processor, I can now debug. I do see my printf() call does not work though.

The easiest way to get Hello world working with TI RTOS with CCSv7 is to use the Resource Manager that creates the Hello World from a pre-existing template. Refer links below:

If you have your own hello World project then make sure the semi hosting library rdimon is linked to the project else you will not be able to see the prints in the CCS IO console.

PS: Please note that CCSv7 is not yet supported with Processor SDK RTOS or Industrial SDK. We will enable this through an upcoming release.

Thanks! I had already succeeded using the Bare Metal example, but had assumed the printf would appear on the USB UART. I hadn't looked at the CCS console window. Is there a way to output to the USB UART?

Yes, the UART driver that we provide as part of the Processor SDK RTOS has a function called UART_printf that can be used to direct print logs to the serial console.

However since you are using Starterware, please refer to ConsoleUtils under the utils folder to direct console output to UART. HEre is the description for the same:
