Hello,

I am having trouble selecting a DaVinci processor for my application. I am deciding between the TMS320DM369 and the DM385. My application is to take Bayer camera input and stream over WiLink 1837 module with some compression (likely MJPEG) in between with 1080p 30 fps max. I believe that both of these processors are capable of this, so I ask:

1. Is one of them more recommended for new designs?

2. Will the lower clock speed of the DM369 likely cause latency issues or is 432 MHz sufficient?

3. Which one does TI recommend?

Hi,

As you have rightly found out, both processors are capable of performing 1080p30. So the processor selection is very much use case specific.

You can make choice based on power requirements, cost, additional algorithms that is required for your application. Using DM385 over DM369 gives you advantage of high processing power required for any additional complex use case or algorithms you want to add in later stage of project.

No, there is no such recommendations. It is purely cost and usecase case specific selection by the customers.
To say i n other words, higher the complexity of the project, DM38x/DM81x platforms are recommended over DM36X.

We have recently heard from a TI contact that the TMS320DM369 is now considered a legacy part. We need confirmation if this is true and we need to know what this means.
