Hi Team,

I have a customer using the K2G in a design, and they have some questions:

Refer to my "EMU and Bootmode" drawing for the following questions (only visible to TI employees here--> https://txn.box.com/s/hs216rxicd7homso8r56dlfflt9qmyre), K2G's EMU[2:17] also muxed as bootmode pins for micro SD card boot.

Q1: K2G's BOOTMODE14/EMU16 is for

Boot Acknowledgement:

• 0 = No Boot Acknowledgement expected from MMC

• 1 = Boot Acknowledgement expected, will timeout if not received

What's the setting on EVMK2G when boot from micro SD? Switch the 4-bit DIP on EVMK2G and FPGA, BMC, configures the BOOTMODE[15:00] for me. Since I am able to bootup my own app with micro SD on EVMK2G I would like to know the setting of BOOTMODE14.

Q2: My EMU[19:00] are not buffered and using pullup/pulldown to select BOOTMODE. What is the ideal pullup/pulldown value? 10K or 4.7K?

Q3: For K2G BOOTMODE selection, BOOTMODE[15:00]/EMU[2:17], do I need buffering?

TI wiki says "EMU pins must not be buffered." but I don't know it means EMU[01:00] only or for all EMU pins.

Its a little confusing the way they have the site set up, but there's a bunch of *reference designs* containing the EVM schematics, for some reason they don't have those schematics on the EVM page. Take a look here:

Brian,

Yes, we have escalated this to the hardware and internet marketing team. The latest schematics, BOM and layout files seem to be under review and will be uploaded to the product folder soon.

the boot mode setting on the K2G EVM is done using BMC software driving GPIO pins to drive the BOOTMODE pins. The details of how these pins are driven are provided here:

you can also see the full pin setting from the BMC console from BMC serial console available through uart2usb. you can see the current bootmode pin settings by typing the command "bootmode" on the BMC command line.

Hi Brian,
TI Designs were developed in parallel to the development of the K2G GP EVM and the schematics loaded with these are earlier versions. We are currently completing our final review of the production documentation for the GP EVM. Once that review is complete, they will be uploaded to the product page for the GP EVM.

Q2: we should use 4.7k pullups, correct?

Q3: wiki is talking about all EMU pins, correct?

Hi Brian,

Q2: 4.7K pullups for the JTAG signals and EMU0 & EMU1 are needed. Pullups on the remaining EMUs are only needed if these signal are connected to your JTAG emulator.

Q3: Buffering for EMUs are only needed if you are connecting these signals to a JTAG emulator. If you are supporting trace with all the EMUs connected to a TI60pin or MIPI60 JTAG connector then buffering is needed.
