Linux/TMDSEVM572X: Creating an SD card

Hi,

after building the SDK for the AM572x (following the instructions from processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Processor_SDK_Building_The_SDK) i would like to copy it to a sd card. I found several scripts, but which one is correct? I executed one of the create-sdcard.sh scripts and i was asked to set the sdk path, which i couldn't find. What is it?
I would like to adapt the firewire driver (git.kernel.org/.../) and use it. How can i do that? Is there a tutorial for adapting and using drivers with the tisdk?

Instructions for creating an SD card can be found on the SDK download page: software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html
As for your other question, AM57x devices do not have Firewire hardware, so I doubt that this driver will be of any use to you.

Hi Biser,
thanks for your reply. I have a miniPCIe firewire card, so can use it. Is there a tutorial for adapting drivers?

Hi, Mathieu,

it seems to me that the firewire card is a PCIe endpoint to the AM57x. In general, a Linux PCIe EP requires not only the kernel driver, but also the firmware for the device. Kernel driver you can get from the url you pointed to, but you may also need the manufacturer's kernel patch to support that firewire card. You also need to go to the manufacturer's website to download firmware and put it in the linux file system. Usually, it is /lib/firmware, but please follow the readme file in the download package from the manufacturer. This firmware will be downloaded to the device during kernel bootup and run on the device. You may want to google search on how to bring up this firewire card.

Hi Rex,
many thanks! Regarding the sdcard script, it seems that the tutorial from software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html isn't written for self-built sdks. Is there another one?

Hi, Mathieu,

Do you mean you want to create the SD card with your own build? the sd creation script is not meant to be a developer's tool, but to recreate the setup for TI EVM for out-of-box experience. You can create the SD card using pre-built images in TI's release SDK package, then replace the kernel image with yours. The kernel image is located in /boot directory of the file system in the 2nd partition of type ext3 on the SD card. You can find more details on the partition and types in create-sdcard.sh. You can mount it onto your linux machine. You also need to install any modules associated with your kernel build.
