TMDSICE3359 EVM: Installation of RT-Ethernet Adapters with Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection is Incompatible?

Background:

- EVM: TMDS-ICE-3359

- PC Software: Beckhoff TwinCAT System Manager in Config Mode.

Requested Support:

(1) The “Scan Devices” option under I/O – Configuration > I/O – Devices is blocked out as inactive (greyed out) thus the EVM cannot be discovered. Please advise how to correct this?

(2) The Options > “Show Real Time Ethernet Compatible Devices” , the laptop's built in Ethernet port - Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection is listed as "Incompatible." Please advise how to correct this?

Stephen, I haven't done this in a while, but, if I recall correctly, you need to "install" incompatible devices in order they show up in the "compatible devices" list...

Thank you. However the "TwinCAT RT Ethernet intermediate driver" installation fails for the Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection which appears as "Incompatible" in the software fields. The instructions then state to try installing this driver manually, but where do you locate or download the driver from?

Hi Stephen, no sure if we (TI) can help you with this question.. Maybe you can try Beckhoff/ETG forum? by any chance do you have another PC or NIC to try?

From "Supported Network Controller by Beckhoff Ethernet Driver" link I see 82579LM is supported..

Dear TI, Thank you for the responses.

I've installed the TwinCAT V3 demo software instead of the V2 demo software and the "TwinCAT RT Ethernet intermediate driver" does install and is recognized as compatible given the Intel 82579LM Ethernet Chipset. However, the “Scan Devices” option is STILL greyed-out and the next steps referred to in the TI reference design kit instructions are not possible.

As this is a TI reference design, it might be best if TI approached the appropriate external resources, resolved the issues with TI's reference design, and reported back here when completed. Thanks.

Hi Stephen, could you please send us some snapshots?.. I am attaching one from my TwinCAT just in case this is something similar what you are facing. Also could you point me to which TI design or Wiki are you following?

Hi Paula,

TwinCAT V3 seems to work with the reference design. The instructions are not 1:1, but can be followed all of the way through to successfully toggling the LEDs.
