Hi TI Expert,

Please let me confirm the following question.
According to the the following page, GP EVM has the I2C ID Memory on board. And it was stored the Ethernet MAC Address #0.

So, how to program this memory? Do you have any specific tools?
And would you please teach me the method to apply the Ethernet MAC address to AM335x? Does AM335x read this memory on boot process?

Hi,

Linux does NOT read the MAC addresses from the ID memory. By default the AM335x factory-programmed MAC addresses are used. This memory is a standard EEPROM. It can be programmed via I2C commands form kernel or U-boot.

Hi Biser,
If customer would like to use the user specific MAC address for AM335x, how to apply the MAC address from external memory?
According to the following page, this device can use the specific address for AM335x.

Yes, this is correct. They will need to modify the source code. By default MAC address is read from the mac_id[1:0]_hi and mac_id[1:0]_lo registers and stored in the P[2:1]_SA_HI and P[2:1]_SA_LO registers. They will need to read the address from the EEPROM location instead, and store it in the P[2:1]_SA_HI and P[2:1]_SA_LO registers.

Hi Biser,

I got it. I understand that if they would like to use the specific MAC address for AM335x, they need to read that data from memory and set this value to Ether registers on AM335x.
