Linux/AM5728: How do I access mailbox peripherals from user space?

I'd like to access the mailbox peripherals from a user space application to facilitate communications with other processor cores. What's the best way to do this? Is there a device/driver in /dev I can access and use? If so, is there documentation for it somewhere?

Hi Scott,

Can you provide more details regarding your definition of "mailbox peripherals"? I search the AM572x TRM (chapter 19 Mailbox) regarding "mailbox peripherals" but I am not able to fund such term. Do you name mailbox registers as "mailbox peripherals"?

Yes, the mailbox described in chapter 19 of the TRM is what I am referring to.

Yes, I basically want to know how to access mailbox registers from user space. If this can be done through a kernel module or driver that provides mailbox access from user space then I'd like to know how I can access the driver and where to find any related documentation.

Scott,

You can access mailbox registers (in example MAILBOX1.MAILBOX_SYSCONFIG at physical address 0x4A0F4010) with devmem2 tool from the user space command prompt.

If you need to access these registers from within user space application, you should reuse the approach from the devmem2 tool (explore devmem2.c file), where /dev/mem and mmap() are used.
