TMDXIDK5718: Boot problem

Part Number: TMDXIDK5718
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5718

I received 2 AM5718 IDK boards. I used to work on a 572x EVM board without problem, starting u-boot on sd card then loading linux from network. I wanted to do the same on 5718 IDK.

I tried to start a first 517x IDK, connecting console usb to my host. I had constant loss of usb link. I tried to load u-boot on a sd Card . I tried the MLO and u-boot.img that I used on 5728evm. But I couldn't succeed in getting a correct ttyUSB  console even if leds seem blinking. After many investigations , many tries on reset process,  I saw that the STATUS_LEDS became constantly green. The leds were no more blinking.

I tried to start the second 571x IDK. Quickly I succeeded in accessing USB console. I could load linux ....  After few days of efficient work, I tried to copy my MLO and u-boot.img on NOR, to try starting my board without sd card. I saw few times that if sd card was not present, the system tried to load my MLO on flash, I had some problem but I could start again on sd card.

I tried to restart the hardware to change the start process by using button "HARD RESET". I don't know what I did wrong, but my second board is now in the same state as my first 5718 IDK . It doesn't start anymore. Status Leds are not blinking but constantly green.

Is this combination of leds means something ?

Do you have any idea of what could happen?

  • The factory team have been notified. They will respond here.
  • Cecile,

I'm sorry you are having problems with the IDK. I'm looking into this an will provide some feedback soon.

  • Cecile,

What version are your IDKs? This should be clearly indicated on a white sticker just under the AM571x Processor.

I've tried two versions (1.2A and 1.3A), and on neither one do the Status LEDs continuously blink, neither are they green (they are blue in my case). There is a USB led that indicates when the USB FTDI chip is powered via USB for continuous console connections in an automation environment.

What version of software are you using? AM571x support was added after AM572x, so it could be that the software you are using does not support AM571x properly.

Can you try downloading the latest Processor SDK and booting that from an SD Card?
  • Hello,

my board is a 1.3B version. I got the latest sdk that supports 5718IDK.

Actually, I two boards. One may have a physical problem so that the SD card interface is not safe.

On both boards, I had problems with USB monitor. I loose the connection very often. It seems that there is an interaction between USB power and main Power. It is difficult to access UBOOT. It seems that there is a global problem of power on the board so that the SD interface has a power level which is at its limit.

Thanks. Sorry for my late answer.

    Cecile
