TMS320C6678: Processor Obsolescence

Hi Joe,

I don't have information about how long ago TMS320C6678 arrived on the market, but this processor WILL be supported, and can be used for new designs.
ARM+DSP family like 66AK2L, 66AK2H, 66AK2K, 66AK2E and 66AK2G are a better choice because they can run both TI RTOS & Linux.

I am looping the design team to provide info about when TMS320C6678 was released.

The TMS320C6678 was released into full production in 2011.  It is a member of our KeyStone-I family of devices that are popular and fully supported.  We expect it to remain in production for many years to come.  TI sells products from this family into markets like telecom and industrial controls.  Those markets require products to be in production in excess of 10 years.  The TMS320C6678 was designed for those markets.

Yordan mentioned products from out KeyStone-II family that are high performance devices containing both ARM and DSP cores.  These are a few years newer and also fully supported.  More information is available on our KeySone-I and KeyStone-II processor lines at http://www.ti.com/lsds/ti/processors/dsp/overview.page.

Alternately, if scalable ARM+DSP performance is more advantageous, the Sitara line at http://www.ti.com/lsds/ti/processors/sitara/overview.page may be more appropriate.  These are also targeted into industrial markets and will be supported for many years.
