We are using AM3517AZCN on a custom PCB together with a NAND flash from Micron (MT29F2G08ABAEAWP-IT:E) which requires 4-bit ECC. Since AM3517 doesn't support more than 1-bit HW ECC and the U-Boot version we use (v2010.12) seem to only have 1-bit ECC we have encountered troubles with bit-flips. I wonder what's the most strategically correct thing to do. How hard is it to implement 4-bit software ECC in U-Boot and does it already exist in other versions? Another option is to switch NAND to a chip that only requires 1-bit ECC but that doesn't solve it for the units already produced.
