I am going to extend Flash memory on AM437x Starter Kit. I realized it is using 64MB QSPI-NOR Flash on that board.

So I am going to use 4GB Nand Flash on Starter Kit.

So what I want to know is that what type of NAND Flash will be supported on AM437x Starter Kit? Or This dev board would be supported NAND Flash?

I don't see how you will be able to connect a NAND flash to the AM437x SK. Required connections are listed in section 5.2.6.4.4 of the AM437x TRM Rev. F. Starter Kit schematics can be downloaded from here: http://www.ti.com/tool/tmdxsk437x#Technical Documents

I have already connected 4GB NAND Flash to AM437X SK. After then, I booted board.
And In Uboot, it was said that "No Supported ID". so It means that this nand flash is not supported on AM437x SK?

Yeah, if it is available, it means the ROM code can pick up the first stage bootloader from NAND flash.

"No Supported ID".
It could mean that there is no software support and adding could be as simple as making an entry in drivers/mtd/nand/nand_ids.h or more. What is NAND part number used ?

What I am using ID is TC58CVG2S0HxAIx Toshiba Flash

Hi Jense Arntz,

I am not sure TC58CVG2S0HxAIx, which is SPI based NAND will be supported by ROM code. Generally NAND devices are interfaced parallely through GPMC, which the ROM code detects(the above table contains such a list of GPMC interfaced NAND devices). QSPI based flash are generally NOR. You can give a try for QSPI boot with your serial NAND flash and check, if it supports. Maybe others can comment on it.

ROM code supports only parallel NAND memories. Serial SPI flash is also supported if it meets the requirements in section 5.2.6.6 of the TRM.

So you mean that I can use any toshiba flash on AM437x Starter Kit if this meets the requirements in section 5.2.6.6 of the TRM?

Yes, these are the requirements, i.e. what ROM code expects in order to boot from SPI.

I understand that my spi flash seems like it is not appropriate to AM437x.
So my question is that I can connect Nand Flash parallely on AM437x Starter kit .

eMMC boot requirements are given in section 5.2.6.5 of the TRM. Pins used are listed in 5.2.6.5.8

I connected AM437x GP EVM to my pc running on windows 8. and I connected RS232 to pc as well.

But I couldn't got any message on Serial port.
What did I do wrong?

How is your PC terminal configured? It should be 115200-8-N-1. What is the RS-232 cable you are using? You need only TX and RX signals for debug.

It needs to be null-modem, not straight. Pins 2 and 3 must be crossed.

First of all check all your SYSBOOT settings per Table 5-10 from the AM437x TRM Rev. F. Also check section 5.2.7.5 and the U-boot wiki guide: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Linux_Core_U-Boot_User's_Guide
