Issues with TI ECG Analog Front End and TMS320C5515 EVM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C5515, TMS320C5505, TMS320VC5505

Hello,
I recently purchased both the TI ECG Analog Front End Kit and the DSP Evaluation board for it. I think there could be an issue with the product specification as listed since when I try to attach the ECG AFE to the DSP EVM, they are not pin compatible.
Details:
1. I purchased the TMDXMDKEK1258 ECG AFE as specified on the website. The board itself says ECG_FE_REV_B, serial no 88.
2. I purchased the TMS320C5515 DSP Evaluation Module. The board itself says TMS320C5515 EVM ASSY 512700 REV B
3. Following the instructions included in the ECG AFE (Titled TMS320C5505 DSP Medical Development Kit -- SPRUG01 - April 2009), I noticed that I am asked to connect the FE to the EVM at connectors J20, J21 and J22. However, neither of these connectors exist either the FE or the EVM. The EVM has connectors J10, J13, J14 that look like they would fit but one jumper (J13 on the EVM) has 1 extra row. J13 on the EVM is 2x11 whereas the female connector on the AFE is 2x10.
Questions:
1. Can I safely connect the AFE to the EVM? Are the 2 top pins on J13 required by the AFE?
2. Have I some how ordered the wrong parts? If so, where can I get the correct parts?
3. After doing some research on web, I noticed that the original design seems to use the TMS320VC5505. However, that board does not seem to be available anymore. I've noticed literature that mentions that
TMS320VC5505 is pin compatible with TMS320C5515. Is this correct?

I would greatly appreciate any help in these matters.

  • The C5515 is the correct EVM to be using.  It replaced the VC5505 EVM on which the original ECG application was developed.  The connectors on the EVM are a TI standardized design and for the ECG AFE  there are more pins on the EVM connector than necessary to install the ECG AFE.  The extra pins are not required for this configuration.

Not sure if you have found this yet, but there is updated application software for the C5515 EVM located here: http://code.google.com/p/c5505-ezdsp/.  Make sure to select the correct software because there are now 2 different ECG AFEs.

    Regards.

  • hi,

can anyone please help me. i need to know step by step procedure on how to implement ecg on c5505 evm. i have read the guide but i dont know how to proceed using CCS. i am doing this school project. and i am badly stuck.

                                                           Thanks.
