66AK2G02: SPI maximum throughput in 66AK2G02?

Part Number: 66AK2G02

Dear Champs,

Could you please  let  me know the maximum throughput of SPI in 66AK2G02?

May I get how much sec needed to transfer 128MB through SPI between SoC and 66AK2G02 and slave mode of SPI in 66AK2G02?

Thanks and Best Regards,

SI.

Could you please let me know the maximum throughput of SPI in TI RTOS?

    Thanks and Best Regards,
    SI.
  • Hi,

I don't have this information, but should be something similar. Looping the RTOS team to elaborate.

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • SI,

Can you provide more details regarding the usecase of transferring 128MB of data over SPI ? The SPI Slave driver provided in the Processor SDK RTOS 3.3 was developed to pass control information so may not be currently optimized for performance. As you can see, this is the first Processor SDK RTOS release that enabled the SPI slave interface. The max SPI slave speed is 25Mhz as specified in the datasheet. Can you confirm your customer plans to use the interface at this speed to optimize the time needed to transfer this data?

Have they considered transferring this data over highspeed interface like PCIe or USB?

    Regards,
    Rahul
  • Rahul,

    Thanks for your response.
There will be main SoC and 66AK2G02 and SPI and I2C will be connected each other to communicate, and simple command will be through I2C and FW update will be through SPI, and their main SoC will be host.

As final FW image for 66AK2G02 is not decided yet, they want to check feasibility for FW update through SPI based on full size of NAND(128MBytes) for worstcase, and to estimate how much time needed to update 66AK2G02 FW through SPI.

So, I want to know the maximum throughput of SPI slave driver on TI RTOS of 66AK2G02.
They can use 25Mhz of max SPI slave speed, but they are also requesting robust communication.

Anyway, at this time and early stage, I would like to estimate time based on 25Mhz of max SPI slave speed.
Can you estimate how much throughput we can achieve in near future?

    Thanks and Best Regards,
    SI.
  • Sung-IL,

I have sent you an email to continue this discussion offline. We have similar requirement for other audio applications that we are looking at. As I mentioned, max speed support for SPI Slave interface is 25 Mhz. There are several factors like board design, software overhead and SOC clocking that impact whether you can achieve this with your software.

Users should prefer to use high speed peripherals like USB or ethernet if the time required for firmware upgrade is critical.

    Regards,
    Rahul
