Upp sample code without DSPBIOS needed

Hi,

We are using TMS320C748 processor which will be connectd to FPGA .We have to use UPP for data transfer between FPGA and processor bidirectionaaly using single channel . One channel(Channel A) i will be using as Transmitter which will be connected to other processor .The other channel (Chan B) will be connected to FPGA as bidirectional. That is it should receive data from FPGA for some duration say 2.5ms and then it should send the processed data to the FPGA on the same channel.

My question is is it possible to configure single channel as both transmitter and Reciever when other channel is always in transmitter whcih will be connected to other processor.

I need to do this without using DSP BIOS .Please send me if any UPP sample code without DSP BIOS. Please help in this regard.

In order to change a channel from receiver to transmitter, or vice versa, the UPP module must be reset. There is not a way to have it change directions on the fly as you have described.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your reply. But my doubt is if i reset UPP to configure channel B as Receiver to Transmitter then whatever actvity going on other channel (Channel A which is configured as Transmitter and it is connected to some other processor)will also be stopped.

Is there any means so that without affecting actvity of channel A which is configured as transmitter ,i can configure channel B from Recevier to Transmitter .(without reseting UPP).

Please also send me some UPP sample code which is written without DSP BIOS.

Hi SATHYA,

The bulk of the software for C6748 is DSP/BIOS based, so if you do not want to use DSP/BIOS, your options are limited.

Other than the software mentioned in the post above, there is a BSL (board support library) that Logic PD provides that has some basic tests that do not use DSP/BIOS.

Go to LogicPD's web site.

Click on the Kit Contents tab, at the bottom of the page click at: TMS320C6748 SOM-M1 GEL, CCS Setup, & BSL Files - you will need to create an account in their website if you do not have one already and download the files. The basic upp example will be at:

No there is not a way to do this. Changing the direction of channel B requires a module reset which will stop activity on channel A.
