DM388: Two Simultaneous HD processing in DM388

I am considering DM388 for my new design to process two full HD Video pipeline simultaneously for scaling, video overlaying and compositing. Whether DM388 would have enough computational power to support it? It is not very clear from TRM. Wondering someone in this forum has evaluated DM388 for same and can help clarifying below doubts about DM388 high definition video processing subsystem (HDVPSS)

 

1.   Whether two video streams processing can be support simultaneously for scaling, cropping, format conversion etc?

2.       Is it possible to stream two independent Videos on HDVPSS video output ports simultaneously?

3.       Is it possible to steam only a specific part of the frame buffer on two different output ports (HDMI/SD/DVI)? For example let say full framebuffer on HDMI port but only one fourth(4th Quadrant) of the same framebuffer on SD display?

    Hi Ripul,

    Please find answers to your questions below.

    1, Yes, you could do scaling and cropping simultaneously for two HD streams. What kind of format conversion that you are looking for?
    2, Yes, it is possible
    3, Well it is possible, but HDMI and SD could have different frame rate, so it is application's responsibility to synchronise the display output. HDVPSS does not take care of this. Probably, your duplicate the output frame, first output can be given to the HDMI display and second after cropping in one of the scalar, can be given to the SD display.

    Now I am clear with DM388 HDVPSS HW supported features. I have a follow up question about SW support for HDVPSS for above functionalities in DM388 SDK. I got to know from release note that HDMI audio support is not available. Also to support scaling, cropping and compositing what level of HDVPSS support libraries are available in DM388 DSK. Is there any sample application to demonstrate these feature in SDK?

    Hi Ripul,

    Yes, we have HDVPSS drivers writen on top of HDVPSS hardware. There are three kind of drivers available in HDVPSS, Capture, Display and M2M drivers.
    There are also samples examples in the HDVPSS drivers, which exercises different paths.
    There is also SDK (DVR-RDK) available, which uses these drivers and runs a specific usecase.
