DM368 does not have H3A Engine ?

Hi Guys

I found that DM365 has H3A engine but there's no in DM368.

In my opinion, even overall system performance will be degraded but 2A(Auto Exposure, Auto White Balance) can be done by software calculation.

But Auto Focus, where can we get Auto Focus data ?

If you have any ideas or solution for Auto Focus please let me know.

Thanks for reading.

  • Hennessy,

Unfortunately you are correct; the h3a functions via the hardware engine are unsupported on DM368, including auto focus.  As you pointed out, both auto exposure and auto white balancing can be implemented by software.

Here are some work-arounds for this:

    • Use a sensor that has already been tuned for our devices in the reference designs available from Leopard Imaging and Appro.
    • Contract Leopard Imaging or Appro to do the necessary tuning for using some other sensor.

Certain TI third-parties configure their image sensors using standard h3a functions on the DM368.  The functions are not supported by TI by are supported by these third-parties.

Both companies have boards for sale that offer sensors that have been tuned to work with our devices.  If one of those specific sensors is acceptable for a given application then there would be a low amount of risk to re-use that solution in a custom board.  Please work with your local sales rep for more information about this.

    I hope this helps.

  • Thanks Sonia.

You mean 2A(White Balance and Exposure) already has solution, done by TI's third party like APPRO or Leopard Imaging.

OK, Regarding 2A,  we can use that solution or will make our own algorithm.

My real concern is Auto Focus and i'm finding solution to implement it on DM368 board.

    My short thinking are:

    1. Using software algorithm running on ARM -- Un-reasonable(performance degradation)

    2. Using senor which support AF Filter data generation(Is there any sensor like that??)

Sonia, if you have any idea or solution for AF, please let me know.

    Thanks and Best Regards
