Custom Board C6713B (.CMD or .GEL File ?)

Hi,

I have custom design board with C6713B. I am using CCS 3.3 with a 510 Emulator.

I tried executing the example programs but I get the error during the loading of the program on to the memory. (FILE --> LOAD PROGRAM)

I understand that I need to edit the .CMD file or the .GEL file. I have the following query, kindly do provide the pointers to me....

1. Which is better editing .CMD file or the .GEL file ? (My understanding is that I need to use either .CMD file or .GEL file and not both together. Am I correct here ?)

2. Where can I get tutorial on how to create a new .CMD or .GEL file ? (I searched for the tutorial but was not able to find !!)

Kindly do provide me wiht pointers (to links or discussions....etc)

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Stevean,

.CMD file is the linker file which defines the memory map of the processor and thus helps placement of definite sections of the code into the processor memory.

.GEL file also defines a memory map, but it is actually defining the known state of the processor at the time of reset/power up.

If you could specify your error, maybe we can guide you in what you need to modify.

Like Sid said, they serve different purposes so you need both.

I would recommend to start from existing example files and use the documentation to adapt to your needs. This way you do not need to start from scratch.

I am very new to this domain. I will go through the documentation provided and create the CMD and GEL file.
