AM5716: Power estimation in Standby mode

Part Number: AM5716

Champs,

Customer is at the early stages of design with AM570x and needs to know what is the lowest power consumption that can be achieved by AM570x device while it is in sleep mode and what are the best tools and methods to achieve it. Few questions here:

1. I do not see PET for AM570x family. Is the AM571x PET fully applicable for AM570x power consumption estimates?

2. Using PET for AM571x I can disable all subsystems, and when I set all IOs at 1.8V and DDR@532MHZ the tools shows ~360 mW consumption. Does this number truly represent the expected consumption in standby mode?

3. Can any additional ways of keeping consumption low in standby mode be recommended (e.g. designing pin connections such that some rails can be shut down completely while in standby? anything else?)

thank you,

Michael

  • Hi,

The PM experts have been notified. They will respond here.

    Some high level guidance.

AM570x PET on ti.com is in works - if you need a preliminary/draft copy for support you can check with Rogerio. In general, AM571x will be a good proxy for AM570x PET , till more widely available.

I would be cautious in using PET as the baseline to figure out the lowest power mode that can be achieved etc - as PET is somewhat a hardware/device centric view - it does not completely take in to consideration all the silicon erratas that impact some/prevent lower power modes achievable  as well as what is the out of box standby/os idle you will see for the devices supported in our SDK. So it will be best to look at the power data provided with Linux SDK releases to get an understanding on what is achievable/supported out of the box.

AM571x OS IDLE numbers for nominal conditions captured in the following application note

Will have the PM experts chime in further on this thread to provide further guidance.

  • Mukul,

I am aware of the app note, the reason I asked is that the app note contains measurement in OS Idle mode which is not the "suspend to RAM and Standby"mode. I need power consumption measurement (or lacking that an estimate) in the suspend to RAM mode.

    thank you
