Hello, TI Experts,

Our customer sent us a question about DDR3 spec including the operation frequency on AM57-EVM(TMDSEVM572X).

We found related description in wiki page as below;

And our understanding is as follows from the datasheet(SPRS953B);

- The AM57-EVM has two 32 bit memory buses with two DDR3L(DDR3-1066) devices on each bus.

Is this understanding correct?

Hi,

As I see on the AM572x GP EVM (TMDSEVM572x) schematics, the device has four 4 Gb (256M x16) of DDR3L SDRAM memories from Kingston.

Hi,

Thank you for your help.

We want to know the DDR3 frequency spec on AM57-EVM(TMDSEVM572X).
(We cannot find the DDR3 frequency spec in schematics and HUG which you shows.)

The datasheet(SPRS953B) said "Supports up to DDR3-1066".
So we understand that the DDR3-1066 devices are implemented on AM57-EVM(TMDSEVM572X).

Is this understanding correct?

Hi,

The hardware use guide sais:
The part number for the DDR3L SDRAM memory used is D2516EC4BXGGB

The BOM file also states:
MT41K256M16TW‐107:P
D2516EC4BXGGB

You can search for those SDRAMs in the Kingston or Micron websites, i.e. for Kingston device:
D2516EC4BXGGB -> www.kingston.com/.../dram

AM572x DDR requirements are listed in section 8.2.2.5 of the AM572x Datasheet SR2.0 Rev. B. The GP EVM uses memories that conform to these requirements.

Yes. I checked the DDR3 spec on the datasheet of D2516EC4BXGGB.
The data sheet said "supports 1600Mbps, 1333Mbps and 1066Mbps".

And we also checked the section 8.2.2.5 of the AM572x Datasheet SR2.0 Rev. B.
The section 8.2.2.5 said "supports DDR3-1600, DDR3-1066 and DDR3-800".

We are little confused.

Is it reasonable for the answer as below?
- TMDSEVM572X has 4x 16bit DDR3L(up to 533MHz).

We would appreciate if you tell us the recommended answer to the customer about the DDR3 frequency spec on AM57-EVM(TMDSEVM572X).

There is nothing confusing. DDR3-800 is supported ONLY for DDR_CLK = 400MHz. Over the whole frequency range from 400MHz to 533MHz you need minimum DDR3-1066 and maximum DDR3-1600.

Hello sir,
The AM572x EMIF can run up to 533 MHz (DDR3-1066). Any JEDEC DDR3 chip rated for DDR3-1066 and up will be compatible with the SoC. You can use a DDR3-800 chip with the SoC if you limit the EMIF to 400 MHz max.
