Hi,

We are going to start a new project that involves Ethernet redundancy. I noticed that TI's AM3359 Industrial Communications Engine(ICE) would support Parallel Redundancy Protocol(PRP) and High-Availability Seamless Redundancy(HSR) and this would be great benefit for us.

However, the ICE hardware is not enough for us, since we will need a third Etherent port for regular Ethernet communication. I also noticed that AM437x Industrial Development Kit (IDK) has 3 Etherent connectors, and I guess 2 of them are PRU ports and 1 regular Ethernet port. This board will be ideal for us, but the question is: can I run PRP or HSR on this board?

The second question is, if I am to start the evaluation, what I need to purchase? the board and the Code Composer IDE I guess, anything else?

Hi Tianlei,

Yes, you can run HSR/PRP on AM437x IDK, see .

Note, "Beginning in March 2017 AM335x and AM437x industrial protocol support will begin migrating to PRU-ICSS-INDUSTRIAL-SW. All current protocols for AM335x and AM437x will be supported on PRU-ICSS-INDUSTRIAL-SW by the end of June 2017." And we will release HSR/PRP for AM437x in PRU-ICSS-INDUSTRIAL-SW in few weeks.

AM437x IDKs are sufficient for you to evaluate the HSR/PSP solution, and you can boot the pre-built application from SD cards without CCS IDE.

Thanks Garrett! This is great news.

Can you please provide some link on how to make pre-build SD card application? Ideally, what I want to do is to send a Ethernet packet to the board's regular Ethernet port, and the board will deliver the packet to a second board using PRP or HSR, and the second board will forward this packet to its own regular Ethernet port.

Tianlei,

The pre-built HSR/PRP binary doesn't use regular (CPSW) ethernet port. You will need to leverage the HSR/PRP example to develop your application in CCS.
