TMDXIDK5718: IDK fails to start

Part Number: TMDXIDK5718

I download am57xx-evm-linux-rt-03.02.00.05 , and I use Win32DiskImager to download the image into the SD card according the "Windows SD Card Creation Wiki".

Then I insert the SD into the IDK and power on the IDK. there no outport from the serial port. It seems the software is blocking.I wonder if this IDK is failure.

Have you tried with another SD card? Can you try with the latest SDK: software-dl.ti.com/.../index_FDS.html

Yes, I have tried another SD cand ,and I also download the latest SDK as you gived but ,It is the same.

Does the IDK start with the original card that came with it?

Yes,it does.but right now , The original card have been rewrite with am57xx-evm-linux-rt-03.03.00.04.img.

Are you saying that it worked with the original SDCARD image shipped but now that you updated the image that it fails?

There should have been 2 SDCARDs in the box. Have you overwritten both of them? If not, does the other still work?

Yes, I updated the image ,and it fails.

But there are only one SDcards in the box.

Hi,

- Remove the SD card from your AM571x IDK EVM

- Follow the to setup CCS/JTAG access to your EVM

- Connect to your A15 core, load and run the attached UART test example, you should see some output from UART like: uart driver and utils example test cases :please enetr the 16 bytes of character or press the esc

Hi,

So issue closed? Or you still need help for creating bootable Linux image SD card? We have release 4.0 came out, please try the latest if Rel 3.2 didn't work.

but ,my problem is not the uart problem. Is the Linux-rt image can't load from the SD card. and I have try release 4.0,and still not work.

and I downlaod [SDK Install Path]\processor_sdk_rtos_<platform>_<version>\prebuilt-sdcards\<evm>\sd_card_img \SD-card.img , and
the IDK seems to run good. and the output as following:

SD Boot - file open completed successfully
Jumping to MPU CPU0 Application...

Opening framework from SD card...
Loading framework into memory...
Running framework

DIAGNOSTIC TEST FRAMEWORK

Hi,

So your UART is confirmed working, the RTOS bootloader (MLO) also shows the booting from MMCSD is working. When you created the Linux RT image with Windows utility, the Linux didn't boot up. I looped in our Linux team for help.

I have been thinking it must be a hardware failure at my IDK,So I contact my distributor,and they tell me as following:

For all defective development tools:

The customer must first contact TI via E2E forum at http://e2e.ti.com/ to verify the failure. If the TI tech determines the part could be defective, please have the customer provide communication string to validate TI’s approval to return/replace the kit. Once the string has been verified, then have the customer return the kit to Mouser Corporate office and send the customer a replacement, if they want one. Once this has been completed, assign the S/O to SM including the verified communication from TI: SM will obtain an RMA from TI and close out the S/O.

I think is a better way to return the IDK to my distributor and get a a replacement.

It is unlikely a hardware problem. You can try with a different SD card, or you can try create the Linux image from a Linux machine. This all can rule out if IDK EVM is broken or not.

Of course, it is great if the distributor agreed to exchange one.

Hi,

Please try using Linux machine to create the SD card while I try using windows machine. Let us know if that doesn't work for you. It's unlikely the EVM is bad if you can run the RTOS examples.

just want to give you an update. I used the window machine to create the SD card, and I see no issue for the EVM to come up. Make sure the exact steps are followed as described in the document. I'll close this thread. If you have further questions, please open a new thread.
