AM3354: Running application from MMC0

Hi,

We have designed a custom board using AM3354,

We designed the board considering MMC0 be used as a booting media, but as there is a restriction for boot device should be less than 4GB.

There is also nand on the board and made configuration to boot from nand and we are able to boot from NAND

Question :

1. Can we run the application from MMC (4GB eMMC connected to MMC0) when Linux is booted fron NAND(Connected to GPMC) ?

2. Is there any restriction for memory size for NAND boot (8bit or 16 bit) ?

Hi,

1. Yes, you can. Just bear in mind that you cannot execute directly from eMMC, as this is a block device and is not memory-mapped.
2. NAND requirements are listed in section 26.1.8.4 of the AM335x TRM Rev. P.

Hi Biser,

Checked in the TRM as you had mentioned.

It says NAND devices supported till 64Gb (x8 , x16), but no information on does it boot from such memory size. So can i use NAND of >2GB for booting through NAND.

What is the NAND geometry? Does it have ONFI support? Please read the entire chapter. All necessary details are given there.
