AM3358: External RTC

Hello,

I am using a WiFi with Sitara SDK 3.03 and need an RTC that would run from a battery since the BBB would not be powered on all the time and this unit will not be connected to the internet. I am wondering how this would work- if there's reference documentation that might suggest a particular RTC hardware?

Also- I want to ensure that this particular version of Arago would work with the RTC- I am unfamiliar if there's a service or something that runs on Arago at boot time for the RTC?

Hi,

There are a lot of external RTC devices, that are supported in the Linux SDK. On Sitara EVMs the MCP79410 is used for example.

Hi Biser,

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked through the Linux menuconfig for the Sitara SDK 3.03 and saw a bunch of different RTCs but did not see the MCP79410 in there. Is there some generic RTC device standard that the 79410 would adhere to or something?

Hi Biser,
I thought I would check back in with you about the MCP79410 for TI Sitara SDK 3.03 support. Have you had any success with this combination?

Additionally, if any of the other devices that are in there are simply plug and play for boot time RTC functions- that's fine too. I just want one that will work :)

Hello Mark,

Please, check the <Processor SKD>/board-support/linux-<version>/drivers/rtc/rtc-ds1307.c file. The driver you need to enable is Device Drivers ---> Real Time Clock ---> Dallas/Maxim DS1307/37/38/39/40, ST M41T00, EPSON RX-8025.

I do see the support the MCP79410 RTC in the rtc-ds1307.c file as suggested. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
