Designing 3530 Board...questions

Hi,

I am designing a custom 3530 based board.

As I am researching how to get the OS on the board to load, I have a few questions. I will define this discussion to an OMAP3530CBB package, w/ PoP Micron FLASH/SRAM, MT29C4G48MAZAPAK-IT. I am laying down a MicroSD card reader to eventually boot from. JTAG will be turned on.

1. Can I burn the NAND Flash via JTAG with the OS? Or would it be better to burn it with the uboot to then grab the OS from the MicroSD card?

2. For a keyboard, I will have USB turned on, and plan to use a USB keyboard. Any issues w/ drivers for this on linux?

Thanks...

  • For #1, I'd suggest booting to u-boot from the MicroSD card and then burn images to flash. The Beagleboard Rev C4 does this using SD. For #2, no problems with USB keyboards. I've used various ones on our EVM and on the Beagleboard.

  • Please though remember that the USB host port on Beagle only support HIGH-speed devices. In order to connect a keyboard/mouse (typical Full/Low-speed devices) you therefore need to have a USB HUB in between doing speed translation from HS to FS/LS... For Beagle-XM this HUB has been added to the board and therefore isn't needed externally any longer :-)

    Best regards - Good luck

  • All,

Thanks for the replies. I have a few more questions:

    1.  Does U-Boot allow for the burning of images to Flash?

    2.  Also, since this is a custom board, I will need to make a custom version of U-boot for this board.

How can I go about doing this?

    Thanks,
