AM5728: Ethernet interface compatibility

Hi ,

We are designing a custom board with the reference of AM5728 EVM Design .

We are bringing out RGMII0 & 1 Ethernet interfaces(1Gbps ) using KSZ9031RNX Transceiver .

My concern is by using the above combination can i connect a LAN network whose speed is < than 100Mbps ??

Is this combination can be configured to work at 100 Mbps or please let me know this combination is backward compatible to 100/10 Mbps ?

Yes of course. The RGMII interface supports 10/100/1000Mbps.

Sir ,

Thanks for confirming me about the RGMII compatibility .

I am also planning to use the Industrial Ethernet Interface (i:e PR2_MII1) .

PR2_MII1 is a 100 Mbps Industrial Ethernet Interface . I am not much aware about the use cases of this interface

My question is , does this interface supports only Industrial Protocol or it can be configured as a generic MII Interface so that i can connect my LAN Network ?

One further comment to the RGMII compatibility:

If 10 Mbps support is needed when CPSW is connected to an RGMII PHY, the RGMII PHY must support the optional in-band status feature defined in the RGMII specification:

3.4.1 In-Band Status (Optional)
In order to ease detection of the link status, speed and duplex mode of the PHY, inter-frame signals will be placed onto the RXD[3:0] signals as indicated in table 4. The status of the PHY shall be indicated whenever Normal Data, Data Error, Carrier Extend, Carrier Sense, or False Carrier are not present. When link status is down, PHY speed and duplex are defined by the PHY's internal setting.
