AM3358: Starter Kit schematic and PCB mismatches

Part Number: AM3358

Hi,

Looking at the design files it looks like a RP7 resistor network assembly on the physical board mismatches the 1.2A revision board design.

The resistor is soldered starting from pin 2 of the footprint, to match the 1.2B schematic connection.

I have a few questions about the available design files:

Is this the only mismatch between 1.2A and 1.2B?

Why was the PCB layout not up issued to match?

Shouldn't there be an obvious note that PCB design file has a mistake in it?

Kind regards,

Ugnius

  • Hi,

Starter Kit design files can be found here: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../AM335x_StarterKit_Board_Design_Files
Revision numbers x.yz with the same x and y numbers are the same PCB. A change in the z alpha character is a change to documentation or a modification to the base x.y board. Changes to x or y denote a different PCB.

Starter Kit board errata can be found here: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../AM335x_StarterKit_rev1_2_errata.pdf

It has been decided that the minor change going from Rev.1.2A to 1.2B does not necessitate a PCB respin.
  • Hi Biser,

Yes this helps, but I still have a few questions:

    1. The inconsistency I mentioned is NOT described in the errata you referenced. Why is that?

    2. The Errata mentions rev 1.2C, which cannot be found on the design files web page. Is the release of it still pending? Is there a rev 1.2A/1.2B advisory list?

    Kind regards,

    Ugnius

  • I have asked the factory team to clarify. They will respond here.
  • I found an internal document which provides more information. Hopefully this helps.

The same PCB has been used for all revisions of the board.

    Revision 1.2B
These modifications done to a rev. 1.2A board will bring the board to 1.2B revision.

    • Remove R241 to remove the termination resistor from DDR_RESETn

    • Shift RP7 down so that pins 1 & 16 are not connected (DDR_CKE should not have a termination resistor on it.

    • Remove R16 and place a 4.75K resistor from FT_SRESET net side pad of R16 to ground

    Revision 1.2C

These modifications done to a rev. 1.2B board will bring the board to 1.2C revision.

    • Change the U26 AM3358 processor to rev. 2.1

    Revision 1.2D

These modifications done to a rev. 1.2C board will bring the board to 1.2D revision.

    • Remove WiLink6 and all associated components

    • Remove A1, L7, L12, C136, C230

    • Remove Y2, C70, R187, R188

    • Remove R57, R58, R182-R185

    • Remove ANT1, L13-L15, R239, J10

    • Remove C215, U22, L6, C69, C252, U27, R222, R224, C257, C135

    • Remove C149, C151, U11, C259, C264, U29, C170, C180, U12

    Regards,

    Paul

  • Thanks for this info Paul.
