Linux/TCI6638K2K: 10GbE Interface using XFP Module, Link not up

Part Number: TCI6638K2K
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DA8XX

Tool/software: Linux

Hi All,

We are trying to up the 10 Gig Ethernet interface , the block diagram as below

Control Lines are as below and they are connected as per white paper(SPRY268.pdf)

           XFP Power down o/p ( goes high to low and low to high after power up )

  •                                 XFP Power Disable o/p ( LOW when communication else high)
  •                                 XFP TX Disable o/p (LOW)
  •                                 XFP interrupt, Module absent, module NR, module LOS are i/p

We are using processor sdk 4.0.0.4. and in device tree file keystone-k2hk-netcp.dtsi enabled xgbe_serdes and netcpx , the link-interface<11> which is MAC-to-MAC in the netcpx changed to link-interface<3> ( MAC-to-fiber)

We are getting interface eth4 and eth5 but link is not up

Thanks in advance

Regards

Gireesh

  • Hi Gireesh,

    Can you post your full bootlog?
    Also what is the output of ifconfig?

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • Hi Yordan,

    Please find the boot log and also the device tree

    Regards,

  • Hi Gireesh,

    Can you verify that you have the serdes firmware in your filesystem? See the following errors in your log:
    [ 0.456867] ti,keystone-serdes 231e000.phy: Direct firmware load for ks2_xgbe_serdes.bin failed with error -2
    [ 0.456878] ti,keystone-serdes 231e000.phy: can't get any serdes init fw

    [ 0.456896] ti,keystone-serdes 231e000.phy: LWS serdes procider init failed -19

    And because there is no firmware to be loaded you later get:

    Regards,
    Gireesh Hiremath

  • Hi, Gireesh,

    TI's reference design for XGE is using retimer, not PHY, on a 3rd party RTM-BoC. Because the XGE interfaces are on the RTM-BoC, the XGE configuration is using XGMII_MAC_MAC_FORCED. Using SGMII_MAC_PHY won't work. That's probably why GbE got messed up. You may want to see if XGMII_MAC_PHY do any good. Since TI's using retimer, It has not tested with any PHY.

    Rex
  • Hi Rex,
    We are using the FINISAR FTLX8512D3BTL XFP for 10Gig Ethernet which is not having any PHY , it just optical transceiver.
    Is it possible to communicate directly from SOC MAC to XFI interface ? if possible is pcsdk serdes firmware support it and which option need to choose in bellow

    #define SGMII_LINK_MAC_MAC_AUTONEG 0
    #define SGMII_LINK_MAC_PHY 1
    #define SGMII_LINK_MAC_MAC_FORCED 2
    #define SGMII_LINK_MAC_FIBER 3
    #define SGMII_LINK_MAC_PHY_NO_MDIO 4
    #define SGMII_LINK_MAC_PHY_MASTER 5
    #define SGMII_LINK_MAC_PHY_MASTER_NO_MDIO 6
    #define SGMII_LINK_MAC_MAC_AN_SLAVE 7
    #define XGMII_LINK_MAC_PHY 10
    #define XGMII_LINK_MAC_MAC_FORCED 11
