EVMK2H: PCIe expansion with EVM boards

Hi,

We need to support a PCIe connectivity from c6678 EVM board and Keystone II EVMK2HX  evm board into PCIe expansion/backbone board.

multiple up to 8 EP PCIe cards will be inserted in these slots, we want Keystone II EVM to be a master, another c6678EVM to be an EP and the remaining will be different PCIe cards configured as EP.

Can this work with off the shelf components?

e.g. EVMK2HX connected to AMC-PCIe-Carrier from https://esd.eu/en/products/amc-pcie-carrier  connected to and expansion board such as http://www.cyclone.com/products/expansion_backplanes/pcie2-460.php 

Is there another out of the box solution for such needs?

    We've never attempted connecting the EVMs to a PCIE switch for controlling multiple PCIE endpoints and I'm not aware of any off the shelf solutions. I suggest you review the amount of data that you need to transfer. While we do have the PCIE interface on the K2H EVM, it is only a two lane implementation. The PCIE switch system you've attached supports only four endpoints with a 16lane interface. If you are expecting to support the transfer of large amounts of data, you need to ensure that two lanes of PCIE are sufficient for you purpose.

  • Hi, the amount of data that I need to collect is much much less that what 2 PCIe lanes can support, my problem is to connect lots of PCIe endpoints to the EVM through PCIe. would the system that I described from above work? (i.e. EVMK2HX connected to AMC-PCIe-Carrier from esd.eu/.../amc-pcie-carrier connected to and expansion board such as www.cyclone.com/.../pcie2-460.php )

    It is unlikely that the links you provided would work for the system you described. First the K2H is a double height card with the rear transition module connector. I don't think it would physically plug into the adapter card you linked. Second, the expansion backplane appears support two root complexes with four end points each based on the block diagram. It isn't clear how the backplanes would allow communications between the two root complex devices.
